The mini-workshop "Helium-mediated Synthesis, Soft-landing and Spectroscopy of Metal Nanoparticles on Surfaces" (HeSSSMe) is aimed to bring together leading theoretical and experimental researchers who are currently working in this emerging field of helium droplet research as well as those who will be interested in future involvements within this area.   Recent experimental studies have shown that helium nanodroplets can act as carriers for the soft-landing deposition of metal nanoparticles, synthesized inside the droplets, on solid surfaces. This innovative technique holds promises in surface science applications due to the catalytic, optical, magnetic and electronic properties of the deposited species. The first-principle simulations of the HeSSSMe process face challenging aspects, such as

        1) dynamical approaches accounting for the quantum nature of the helium nanodroplet.

        2) the inclusion of finite temperature surface effects after the impact with the surface.

        3) the reliable and accurate description of the dispersion-dominated helium-surface interaction.

        4) the assessment of embedding approaches to describe the metal-surface interaction as well as many-body effects within the metal clusters.

        5) the development of computational tools to study the catalytic, electro- and magneto-optical properties of the quantum-sized deposited metal clusters.

The main session of the HeSSSMe mini-workshop will be devoted to highlight the problems that might  stimulate the development of new (first-principles) methodological strategies and combined experimental/theoretical studies. With this goal, leading experimentalists will be invited to present introductory lectures. For more information click here.
